Restaurants & Pubs
There are some excellent pubs and restaurants just 5-10 minutes drive from Peartree Cottage. The 18th Century coaching inn, the Angel Inn at Corbridge serves delicious food all day using local ingredients, the bar is always lively and welcoming. The Rat Inn at Anick is within walking distance and again serves home-cooked, locally sourced bar food and has beautiful views of the valley.

Hexham is home to a great brasserie, Bouchon which was voted by Channel 4 as the best local French restaurant in the UK. The Duke of Wellington is another local pub and restaurant just off the A69 whose chef, John Calton was a MasterChef finalist. Also near Newton is a contemporary gallery Fi Fie Fo Fum with stunning views accross the Tyne Valley.

Further along the A69 is Brocksbushes Farm Shop which is well stocked with gourmet food including fresh vegetables, cheeses, pies and pates. It has freezers full of home cooked main courses and puddings for those who don’t want to cook on holiday. Nearby Vallum Farm on the Roman Wall has a tearoom with a mouth-watering selection of ice creams.

Shopping
Just down in Corbridge there’s an alladin’s cave of ubercool home accessories in the mailorder company RE’s shop, re-foundobjects.com.

Another stylish interior design and furniture shop is Hexham’s Compleat Interiors in Market Street. Market Street has many excellent and interesting shops including Petals for beautiful lingerie and swimwear. Cogito Books in St. Mary's Chare is Hexham's only independent bookshop (and winner of Independant Bookshop of the Year 2009).

Corbridge has an excellent and helpful bookshop and art shop, Forum, the wonderful Corbridge Cookshop and a first class greengrocer, Robbie Stobo.
